Just a complete travesty. El Fasher’s days were numbered but it still is horrific to see such mayhem. I wonder how this will affect the war now that the RSF can focus everything on the front.

The RSF, a side in Sudan's civil war, has captured El Fasher after a seige that lasted over a year. It descends from groups (Janjaweed) who committed the Darfur genocide, and it remains an especially brutal forceeven by regional standards. The RSF is funded by the UAE, Chad, and Libyan warlord Khalifa Haftar. Note how this footage comes from the RSF fighters themselves.

There is no equivalence between the two sides in Sudan's civil war. The military dictatorship (SAF) has committed war crimes, but the RSF's violence is on a completely diferent level. Policies aimed towards each side should reflect this difference.

Please consider contacting to your congressperson/MP about this, and ask for sanctions on the UAE.

Hello! thank you for your prayers man. It’s a common misconception that the war in Sudan is a civil war and it’s the furthest from that. The actual truth is that the conflict involves the Armed Forces led by Abdel fattah Burhan (military) and the Rapid support forces/paramilitary (RSF) led by Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo (aka Hemedti) and also broadly known by the name of Janjaweed. These entities were one in the past but over time, disagreed and Hemedti decided to carry out a coup and flip over to take control of Sudan. The conflict began in Khartoum the capital which has led to the internal displacement of the majority of its citizens due the violence inflicted by the RSF during the process. They started looting houses, threatening families, missiles, RPGs, raping men/women/children alike. The tricky part is that the RSF is funded by the UAE which has been supplied with resources including tanks, guns/rifles and all types of war equipment you could think of that traced back to the UAE. Although the UAE have denied these accusations when the international court raised these allegations, reports from these sources have been reported by many citizens. The UAE has no goldmines yet it’s one of the biggest markets for gold in the world. Hemedti was involved in the gold business and has been reported to sell gold to the UAE. 
So after the internal displacement, people travelled to other states but as the war expanded, more regions were raided by RSF soldiers who terrorized more citizens and forced people to flee out the Sudan entirely. and now, Sudan is considered the largest displacement t crisis in the world and the stats that are actually available don’t even explain the reality of the situation as most people dismiss this war as a civil war and “these people are just animals)

Do you read Arabic? There's a new book, *Janjaweed wa Hakoura* by Sudanese historian Abdullahi Ibrahim that goes into the reasons for the rise of the Janjaweed, I would recommend reading those sections.

This war is in many ways, an extension of the civil war in Darfur (but with the Janjaweed now against the Sudanese government v.s. defending it), so I recommend Alex de Waal's book on that war as well, as it really helps contextualize the material and historical factors that led to the RSF's current ethnonationalist insurgency.

It's really big and cruel war. And it really shows how distorted picture of the world we have. People typically care only about their own region.

I'm Lithuanian (Europe) and all we hear on the news, is Ukraine, Israel/Gaza and Syria (not so much after regime change). Well, sometimes Lybia. No news (or very, very little news) about Sudan, Somalia, Ethiopian conflict, Wagner coups in Sahel region etc.

When I was a kid, in the 90's, in Africa 2nd Congo war (or Great war of Africa) was ongoing, it was biggest conflict since WW2 times, but all we heard on our Lithuanian news back in the days, was Yugoslavian war. I learned about Rwandan genocide only some years after it happened. But we always knew what's going on in Bosnia.

And this is typical thing not only for Europe. I checked some Indonesian news sites and found almost nothing about Ukrainian war (it's topic number 1 here). Only how China increases its power in pacific region, transgenders in Thailand, India - Pakistan tensions etc.

Here on Reddit i see some Indians who always are salty about Pakistan, compare their country with Pakistan, their main problem seems to be Pakistan etc. So it's human nature.

Thats a rough neighborhood. The only country not actively in a civil war is Eritrea and Egypt, one of which is the North Korea of Africa (currently gearing up for war against Ethiopia) and the other is a Dictatorship who itself borders the war in Gaza
